February 28, 2014Matt Leave a comment

One thing I’ve been noticing is a lot of water in the bilge. I thought this was just fresh water from rain/snow, but it’s been dry for several days and the bilge was still filling up, so I decided it… Continue reading →

Now the boat is in Fisherman’s Wharf, I’ve had to think exactly what steps I needed to take to get her ready to live on. The first thing I decided was to remove as much stuff as I could from… Continue reading →

This was going to be a two part process – Monday evening I was going to get the boat in the water, and then Tuesday move it. Arriving Monday, I was greeted like this.   WHAT IS IT WITH SNOWFALL… Continue reading →

I got back from my week long work trip, and paid a visit to my boat. I checked on the status of the dehumidifier and found it hadn’t collected as much as I’d hoped – on investigation I found why… Continue reading →

I arrived at my boat and was pleased to see the yard had finished the painting – the bottom looks a lot better now!   I’d planned to fix some of the gel coat that had been scraped off on… Continue reading →

Or maybe not. After arriving at the boat today, I started marking off the waterline with green painters tape, and then abruptly decided to get someone else to do it. This was for 2 main reasons: – Firstly, for maximum… Continue reading →

After a long few days of sub-zero temperatures, meaning the water at the yard wasn’t working, it finally warmed up enough so the water started running again. Which meant that I couldn’t postpone cleaning any longer… here are some example… Continue reading →

Panama Canal Part 2 Panama Canal Part 2
A couple of weeks ago I made it through the Panama A couple of weeks ago I made it through the Panama Canal, which was a pretty crazy 17 hour day. There are 6 locks in total, divided into 3 groups - 3 locks are at the start, then you end up driving through a manmade channel for miles, before emerging into a manmade lake.

The whole day was so full of huge ships and challenging situations but the feeling of emerging into a NEW OCEAN on the other side is pretty unbelievable

Made to Panama City, my last stop in the Pacific f Made to Panama City, my last stop in the Pacific for quite some time. Last 100 miles were upwind against heavy current but it was ok, even the fearsome Punta Mala was tame. By far the scariest bit was threading my way through the shipping anchorage outside the canal, the traffic was very active and a couple of times I had to get out the way sharpish

Next, the canal!
