Chilling in Banderas Bay

March 12, 2019Matt 1 Comment

After leaving Chacala Bay, it was a 40nm sail down to La Cruz, in Banderas Bay. We picked up my friend Mal and spent the next while hanging around the bay, sailing to Punta Mita (an anchorage 10 miles away… Continue reading →

Mazatlan and Isla Isabel

February 24, 2019Matt 2 Comments

After arriving in Mazatlan I spent a couple of days in the marina, refueling, getting supplies and waiting for Emma to arrive. She arrived and we tried to leave to head to Isla Isabel (100nm to the south) – only… Continue reading →

Things that have worked (and some things that haven’t)

January 18, 2019Matt 13 Comments

Well since I’ve just spent the last week or so hanging around La Paz with my friend Davey, and am going to spend the next few weeks hanging around the same area reading/spearfishing/eating/napping until it’s time to go to Matazlan… Continue reading →

Happy New Year everyone!

January 10, 2019Matt Leave a comment

Happy new year! I’m still in the La Paz area and have spent the last few weeks bumming around all the nearby bays etc with my friend Emilie, so not really much to report sailing-wise. Caught a bunch of fish… Continue reading →

Turtle Bay, MX to Santa Maria Bay, MX (aka the worst passage)

November 20, 2018Matt 8 Comments

note – my phone died so this section will be rather picture light. Turtle Bay is a funny little place – halfway down the Baja California, not near anything else, it mainly seems to exist as a fishing village and fuelling… Continue reading →

Ensenada, MX to Turtle Bay, MX

November 18, 2018Matt 7 Comments

As mentioned in the previous post, arrival into Mexico was pretty easy, although involving a fairly long cold foggy motor. With clearing into Mexico out the way it was time to head on south down the baja california! First stop… Continue reading →

Half Moon Bay, CA to Monterey, CA

October 12, 2018Matt 2 Comments

This was a nice little day jaunt, being only 60 or so NM away from Half Moon Bay. I motored out in the early morning to another nice sunrise (actually, I think that may be a sunset picture from the… Continue reading →

Coos Bay, OR to Eureka, CA

September 24, 2018Matt 3 Comments

Leaving Coos Bay I had another nice sunrise motoring out, the sea was really flat and there wasn’t much wind. Basically, I just motored for 30 hours straight, THUNK THUNK THUNK so this isn’t going to be an exciting update,… Continue reading →

Made to Panama City, my last stop in the Pacific f Made to Panama City, my last stop in the Pacific for quite some time. Last 100 miles were upwind against heavy current but it was ok, even the fearsome Punta Mala was tame. By far the scariest bit was threading my way through the shipping anchorage outside the canal, the traffic was very active and a couple of times I had to get out the way sharpish

Next, the canal!

The hardest parts are yet to come but after two and a half years, I'm homeward bound.
