As mention here I ordered a wind vane called a Hebridean and it arrived today in kit form.
Looking at the instructions it’s gonna take me a fantastically long time to assemble – WINTER PROJECT methinks. At 1/8 the price of a brand new Monitor or Hydrovane though it’s really hard to beat.
I’ll probably get cracking on it when I have more of the portholes in.
WooHoo!
I’d go for one now but we got a “capital control” thang going on and I can’t purchase (anything) from abroad for the time being.
Hey, how high is your free-board? There is a 600mm to 1000mm spec. I’m borderline on the 1000
Mine’s a bit higher than that but a reverse transom – I’m pretty sure I can make it work with some decent block placement for the control lines. If not, then I’ll just sell the assembled thing!
Does it act as a back up rudder as well? Haven’t heard of this brand.
It doesn’t – it’s a servo-pedulum model. I’d love one of the ones that are a back up rudder as well but they are waaaaaaaaaay out of my price range, and this brand has rave reviews, despite being fairly new. We will see!
