February 1, 2016Matt Leave a comment

Because I apparently cannot stop faffing around with stuff, there are a couple more changes. Firstly I added a ‘projects’ section with it’s own dropdown, which collects all the posts about the major projects I’ve done/am doing. Secondly, being a… Continue reading →

Adding another line clutch

January 30, 2016Matt Leave a comment

Or maybe it’s called a rope clutch? I DUNNO. Anyway, it’s the thing that holds lines fast and makes line handling a million times easier, especially single handed. No HILARIOUS JOKES this entry because installing this thing was MAD boring… Continue reading →

Redoing boom running rigging

January 25, 2016Matt 2 Comments

One thing I’ve meant to do for a while is sort out the running rigging inside the boom. The boat came with the outhaul (thing that tensions the bottom of the sail by pulling it ‘out’) reef line and the… Continue reading →

January 17, 2016Matt Leave a comment

I went to Orcas this weekend to pick up my drive unit for my autopilot, and it was a bit of a comedy of errors. The first thing that happened was I cycled my bilge pump and got my feet… Continue reading →

Panama Canal Part 2 Panama Canal Part 2
A couple of weeks ago I made it through the Panama A couple of weeks ago I made it through the Panama Canal, which was a pretty crazy 17 hour day. There are 6 locks in total, divided into 3 groups - 3 locks are at the start, then you end up driving through a manmade channel for miles, before emerging into a manmade lake.

The whole day was so full of huge ships and challenging situations but the feeling of emerging into a NEW OCEAN on the other side is pretty unbelievable

Made to Panama City, my last stop in the Pacific f Made to Panama City, my last stop in the Pacific for quite some time. Last 100 miles were upwind against heavy current but it was ok, even the fearsome Punta Mala was tame. By far the scariest bit was threading my way through the shipping anchorage outside the canal, the traffic was very active and a couple of times I had to get out the way sharpish

Next, the canal!
