Ensenada, MX to Turtle Bay, MX

November 18, 2018Matt 7 Comments

As mentioned in the previous post, arrival into Mexico was pretty easy, although involving a fairly long cold foggy motor. With clearing into Mexico out the way it was time to head on south down the baja california! First stop… Continue reading →

Sailing to Ensenada

Two posts in one day?! Wowsers! (I’m catching up before heading off to turtle bay where the connection is spotty) After finally managing to leave San Diego, we actually had a pretty wonderful sail down with 5 knots of wind on… Continue reading →

Refitting in San Diego

November 6, 2018Matt 7 Comments

I had a few frantic days running around San Diego during which I bought a lot of stuff, including Custom Fabricated pieces Massive shoutout to Thomas Marine who not only managed to do the bits in a ridiculously short timeframe, but also… Continue reading →

San Diego!

November 1, 2018Matt 9 Comments

So Catalina Harbour was really nice and sooooo clear – I decided yet again to try to catch a Halibut, and had a strong hit, which turned out to be… a shovelnosed guitarfish. Yet another member of the ray family.… Continue reading →

Bobbing around Santa Cruz Island

October 28, 2018Matt 7 Comments

So I got my alt fixed in Santa Barbara – when I say fixed I mean ‘remove the washer than somehow fell and got INSIDE the alternator, grounding out the stator coil’ which was a bit embarrassing, and fixed the… Continue reading →

Morro Bay, CA to Santa Barbara, CA

October 21, 2018Matt 8 Comments

I actually ended up staying in Morro Bay a few more days longer than I meant to – it’s a REALLY nice little place. Free anchorage right by the town, dinghy docks everywhere, and everyone is really chill and lovely,… Continue reading →

Monterey, CA to Morro Bay

October 13, 2018Matt 12 Comments

Leaving Monterey midday (so I’d hit Big Sur (not a wrestler, rather a spit of land) at midnight when apparently it’s calmest there) and also arrive at Morro Bay in the morning, I slowly chugged my way south in 5… Continue reading →

Half Moon Bay, CA to Monterey, CA

October 12, 2018Matt 2 Comments

This was a nice little day jaunt, being only 60 or so NM away from Half Moon Bay. I motored out in the early morning to another nice sunrise (actually, I think that may be a sunset picture from the… Continue reading →

Panama Canal Part 2 Panama Canal Part 2
A couple of weeks ago I made it through the Panama A couple of weeks ago I made it through the Panama Canal, which was a pretty crazy 17 hour day. There are 6 locks in total, divided into 3 groups - 3 locks are at the start, then you end up driving through a manmade channel for miles, before emerging into a manmade lake.

The whole day was so full of huge ships and challenging situations but the feeling of emerging into a NEW OCEAN on the other side is pretty unbelievable

Made to Panama City, my last stop in the Pacific f Made to Panama City, my last stop in the Pacific for quite some time. Last 100 miles were upwind against heavy current but it was ok, even the fearsome Punta Mala was tame. By far the scariest bit was threading my way through the shipping anchorage outside the canal, the traffic was very active and a couple of times I had to get out the way sharpish

Next, the canal!
