Days 26 to 30 – Home!

August 26, 2016Matt 10 Comments

Leaving Hot Springs Cove, we were going to try to push through to Ucluelet. Again, no wind, thick fog and lots of big swells, and at around 90mins North of Tofino I was suddenly hit with an attack of the… Continue reading →

Days 21 to 25 – Going down the West Coast

August 24, 2016Matt Leave a comment

We left Winter Harbour at around 9 after an extremely slothful morning and headed off to see how far we could get. Lotsa swells and for the first bit we had them hitting us broadside, most uncomfortable. Eventually we got… Continue reading →

While at Forward Harbour I switched out the raw water impeller, tightened the alternator belt and cleaned the raw water filter in an attempt to fix the mysterious exhaust smoke. One of these things (probably tightening the belt) seems to… Continue reading →

Days 8 to 11 – The Johnstone Strait

August 8, 2016Matt 3 Comments

After leaving Pendrall Sound, we headed up the Waddington Channel – and straight into a pretty blustery NW wind right in our faces. Simultaneously, the water temperature started to drop as well, putting paid to our hopes of swimming. Guess… Continue reading →

Days 5 to 7: Desolation Sound

So our Copeland Islands stern tie, while beautiful, made me a lil nervous due to the combo of being my third stern tie ever, not being in a generally recognised anchorage and having a Big Ass Rock next to us.… Continue reading →

Day one of the trip! Emma arrived, loaded a bunch more food and ‘supplies’ and after saying bye to Billy we were off! At around 10. Goodbye Victoria! See you in four weeks! The wind couldn’t have been better, a 10-15… Continue reading →

Last 100 miles were upwind against heavy current but it was ok, even the fearsome Punta Mala was tame. By far the scariest bit was threading my way through the shipping anchorage outside the canal, the traffic was very active and a couple of times I had to get out the way sharpish

Next, the canal!

The hardest parts are yet to come but after two and a half years, I'm homeward bound.
