On the weekend, when I was motoring around, I saw this when I removed the aft dock line
YIKES
What had happened was that the previous guy in my slip had left a steel cable and padlock on the aft cleat, and I hadn’t bothered to remove it.
Big mistake.
Two things learnt from this
– Make sure there is NOTHING near your dock lines, at all
– Check the dock lines every few days.
I’m glad I discovered this now instead of when I was drifting gently out to see in the middle of the night, in a storm!
The line has of course, been replaced with a new one.
