Been a few weeks since I last updated, due to it being winter I haven’t really felt like doing anything boat or writing related, but here is a brief update. The marina where I’m at has a competition where they… Continue reading →

Sailing Sooner

November 14, 2022Matt 2 Comments

So at this point I’d taken Sooner out for her first big trip, but still hadn’t actually sailed her outside of the short test sail before purchase. One of the really nice things about being on a boat this time… Continue reading →

October 21, 2022Matt 2 Comments

One of the things that made me pretty leery about buying Sooner was the amount of exterior teak on her. Not only were there the dreaded teak decks, there were also teak cap rails, cockpit trim, cockpit seats, dorade boxes,… Continue reading →

A new dinghy

October 18, 2022Matt 4 Comments

Sooner came with a hard shell dinghy, which I think was fiberglass over a wooden frame. You can see it on the front of the boat in this pic: It was really cute, but was only 6′ long and was… Continue reading →

I am horribly behind on posts, as I have done a lot of boat work in the last couple of months or so while at the same time failing to be motivated to write anything due to being dumped, turning… Continue reading →

This is a narrow passage through the underwater re This is a narrow passage through the underwater reefs between the islands that I sailed through.

Its a bit nerve-wracking, being only around 50 foot wide so I was double reefed on the main and just with a tiny bit of headsail out to help steerage, so I wouldn't go too fast if I did hit something.
